Azhar Ali Lashari
Director & Project Lead

Azhar Ali Lashari

With an academic background in mass communication and anthropology, Azhar has spent more than two decades working with national and international NGOs on environmental campaigns related to land, water, and forest in Pakistan. At PRIED, he leads advocacy work on social, economic, and environmental issues in the energy sector.

Aurangzaib Khan
Communication Advisor & Director

Aurangzaib Khan

Aurangzaib Khan is a journalist, editor, trainer and media development practitioner who has spent the last 30 years asking questions, telling stories and helping other journalists do the same. Working across newsrooms, universities, press clubs and field locations throughout Pakistan, he has built a career at the intersection of journalism, research, training and development communications.

He has trained reporters on issues ranging from climate change, public health and humanitarian crises to human rights, democracy, governance and labour rights, while designing and managing media development projects for organizations including the World Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, UNESCO, ILO, GIZ, IFJ, IMS, Internews and DW Akademie. A strong advocate of building journalism from the ground up, he has helped strengthen journalism education at universities across Pakistan and trained hundreds of journalists, particularly in the border regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. As a journalist and editor, he has written for Herald and Dawn and served as Editor of News Lens Pakistan (2013–2017), a pioneering digital platform that trained and mentored journalists reporting from Pakistan's border regions. He remains passionate about thoughtful journalism, good storytelling and helping reporters find the stories others miss.

Naila Saleh
Technical Advisor

Naila Saleh

Naila works primarily on decentralised renewable energy, green finance, and socio-technical transition. She holds a PhD from TU Berlin in economics and management. She is also a Project Manager at Agora Energiewende, a leading climate think-tank in Berlin. Previously she was a Research Officer at the Institute of Policy Studies.

Hussain Assad Buzdar
Project Manager, Communications

Hussain Assad Buzdar

Hussain Assad leads PRIED's initiative for establishing the cross-party Parliamentary Forum on Energy and Economy. He holds an MPhil in anthropology from Quaid-e-Azam University. His expertise includes news media engagement, networking, and building grassroots alliances with communities particularly affected by coal power generation in Thar.

Shaheera Tahir
Program Manager, Research

Shaheera Tahir

Shaheera holds a master's in public administration from Columbia University (Fulbright Scholar, 2018–2020) and a BA in accounting and finance from LUMS. She has worked with renewable energy consultancies and IPPs, and at PRIED focuses on economic feasibility of renewable energy and impacts of coal and thermal power generation.

Program Manager, Mobilization

Mehwish

Mehwish has a long track record of social mobilisation campaigns for marginalised communities across Sindh. She holds an MBA from the University of Sindh and worked with Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum before joining PRIED in November 2022. She represents affected communities at national and international forums.

Ammara Aslam
Research Associate

Ammara Aslam

Ammara holds a professional degree in environmental sciences from NUST, Islamabad, and has six years of experience on climate mitigation, NDC implementation, greenhouse gas accounting, and voluntary carbon markets. She has worked with the Federal Ministry of Climate Change, UN organizations, and local government departments.

Manzoor Ahmed Alizai
Research Associate

Manzoor Ahmed Alizai

Manzoor holds a BSc in mechanical engineering from UET Peshawar and an MSc in energy systems engineering from NUST. His research interests include renewable energy adoption, rural electrification, microgrid technologies, energy storage systems, and climate change. He has previously worked at AEDB and has IEEE publications to his name.

Amina Shahab

Amina holds a BSc in electrical engineering from UET Peshawar and an MSc in electrical power engineering from NUST. She has previously worked with Skyelectric on li-ion battery fleet analysis and brings expertise in power systems, renewable energy integration, and energy storage solutions to PRIED's research team.

Shan E Zahra Naeem
Project Coordinator

Shan E Zahra Naeem

Shan E Zahra Naeem is a freelance journalist, communications specialist and researcher whose work follows the paths connecting energy, climate and social justice. With a background in Gender Studies and Anthropology, she is particularly interested in how large systems—political, economic and environmental—arrive in ordinary lives, especially that of women who have little say in shaping them.

Her work with PRIED and the Parliamentary Forum on Energy and Economy explore the distance between policy and lived experience, highlighting socio-economic complexities glossed over by neat solutions.

Anfal Nadir
Research Associate

Anfal Nadir

Anfal Nadir is an environmental science professional with an MPhil from the Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. She has a strong academic and professional background in climate policy research, environmental management and sustainability advocacy. Her experience includes contributing to national-level climate research, conducting analyses of Pakistan’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) as well as carbon emission trends and climate finance. She has worked on projects related to renewable energy, environmental compliance and environmental risk assessment. Anfal has been associated with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as intern, and with Global Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC), as a research associate. Her first job was with AAZ Developments, an energy efficiency firm in Great Britain. Most recently, she was working with Turnotech, a telecommunication firm based in Islamabad, as a Quality, Environmental Health and Safety (QEHS) expert.

Laiba Nayyab
Assistant Manager

Laiba Nayyab

Laiba Nayyab holds a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature from the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad, and a master’s degree in Development Studies from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Islamabad. During her studies, she received the UGRAD scholarship and visited the United States as part of a cultural exchange program. She also participated in a national level training workshop on climate vulnerability and capacity analysis and received capacity building training from the Margalla School of Energy and Climate. Previously, Laiba worked as an intern with PRIED’s media and communications team, contributing to media monitoring reports.

Haris Sohail
Research Associate

Haris Sohail

Haris Sohail holds a master’s degree in Economics from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad. Before joining PRIED, he did an internship at the State Bank of Pakistan, gaining exposure to macroeconomic policy and financial sector analysis. He also did a fellowship with the World Bank, working on a part of its Pakistan country report. Earlier, as a research assistant at NUST, he conducted over 100 surveys for a field study on socioeconomic vulnerability during crises. His research interests include debt sustainability and energy transition, with a growing focus on data-driven decision-making.

Usama Irfan
Associate Producer

Usama Irfan

Usama Irfan holds a bachelor’s degree in media studies, with a specialization in film, television and advertising. He has worked with several leading media companies as a digital producer, video journalist, and documentary filmmaker. His work at PRIED focuses on documenting issues and problems related to climate justice and clean energy. In his last job, as a videographer at Lok Sujag, he travelled widely to make news features on many public interest subjects such as minority rights, climate change, agriculture and social and economic justice. He has also made a short feature film on domestic violence and child abuse and a documentary film on Punjabi language’s social, cultural and economic status in Pakistan’s 21st century.

Muhammad Kashif
Manager Finance and HR

Muhammad Kashif

Muhammad Kashif has worked with various local and foreign organizations for 17 years in accounting, finance, administration and program coordination. Possessing a master’s degree in business administration with a major in finance, he has worked most recently as a program coordinator at the Institute of Urbanism (IoU) and as a manager finance and administration at the Re Nergy Solution (private) Limited. Well-versed in audit, tax returns, bookkeeping and accounting, he has also worked with the World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) as a program coordinator and as a finance and administration officer at the German Green Party’s political foundation – Heinrich Boell Stiftung (HBS) — from 2016 to 2019. Kashif has attended training courses on the use of financial software and on German Ministry of Economic and Development’s rules and procedures. He has also acquired extensive on-the-job training in many other taxation and financial issues.

Fatimah Zaheer

Fatimah Zaheer has over three years of professional experience in Human Resource Management and has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science. She, thus, possesses a unique blend of organisational management expertise and sustainability knowledge. She has experience of working with tech-based organizations as well as with development initiatives and has supported multidisciplinary teams through effective human resource management, administrative coordination and legal compliance. At PRIED, she plays a key role in strengthening internal systems that enable impactful work on energy transition and climate justice.
